No connection between coupon throwing and stampede

LOCAL police have confirmed that the coupon throwing had nothing to do with the stampede at the Bund.

Police said on Weibo last night that some people started to throw coupons resembling US banknotes to revelers outside the M18 bar, at 11:46pm on Wednesday, later than the stampede which happened at 11:35pm.

They also said the M18 bar is about 60 meters away from the site of the stampede, and that only a small number of people went to pick up the notes, so it had not triggered the tragedy.
