No instruments for this young Austrian band

A BAND that puts on powerful performances unaided by any instruments besides their own voices is playing at 6pm today and 2pm tomorrow.

Bauchklang, a five-man Austrian band featuring the human beatbox sound, where performers use their voices to simulate percussion and other sounds, are performing songs from their new album "Signs."

The group got together at school to explore a diverse range of music genres, which included electronic, hip-hop, house and human beatbox.

"We just kept trying to improve by experimentation, so now we have a combination of many different elements that makes for a really nice mixture," Andreas Fraenzel, the band's lead singer, said.

"We hope that coming here allows us to play more in China because I think the people are really interested in what we are doing," said band member Gerald Huber.

The band members are hoping that their Expo appearance will lead to invitations to play at other venues in China.
