Once bitten, twice shy
A MAN who was bitten by a poisonous snake while on a visit to Shanghai has regained consciousness and can now talk and eat at the Longhua Hospital.
Guo Yupeng, a native of Sichuan Province, is recovering well and no longer needs life support to breathe, his doctor Chen Wei said today.
But he still suffers numbness of limbs and will stay in the intensive care unit for further observation, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
He was sent to the hospital last Sunday and narrowly escaped death from the attack by a narrow-banded krait when he was trying to handle it at a fish market on Tongchuan Road.
After hours of treatment and detoxification, he was in a stable condition.
Getting bored with his job as an interpreter, Guo came to Shanghai hoping to become a snake breeder to earn more money for his impoverished family in Jiande County, western Sichuan Province.
He said he would never breed snakes again, the newspaper said.
