Operator dies when crane collapses
A CONSTRUCTION worker died yesterday when the tower crane he was operating collapsed on a building site in suburban Jinshan District.
The accident happened about 9:20am in a residential community under construction on Longxiang Road, witnesses said.
Standing at around 29 floors high, the crane suddenly fell and smashed into several parts on the ground, workers said.
Its operator, a 33-year-old surnamed Wu, was in the crane cab at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
No other injuries was reported, said the local work safety authority.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
