Outdoor LED screens to show music masterpieces

FROM Sunday to July 21, giant LED screens in ten community plazas around Shanghai will show acclaimed musical performances for free, officials said today.

The arrangement, being part of the Shanghai Citizens Art Festival, aims to make classical music accessible to ordinary people.

The plazas are in Huangpu, Minhang, Zhabei and Pudong districts and include Lujiazui Central Green, Daning Life Hub, and Century Plaza on Nanjing Road E.

Videos are selected from the program for this year's Music in the Summer Air outdoor concerts. They include the performance of Grammy nominee Mariza and children's opera "Noye's Fludde" by Benjamin Britten. All shows will start from 7pm.

Tan Shu, an official with the Shanghai Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV which is the event organizer, said renowned musicians and critics will talk about the performances in each video show.
