Overnight fog cripples city traffic
DENSE fog over Shanghai this morning stopped all ferries and long-distance buses, with 32 flights delayed at Hongqiao Airport.
An orange fog alert – visibility of 100 meters – was issued by Shanghai Meteorological Bureau and not lifted until 10am, today's Shanghai Evening News reported.
The fog canceled 42 buses between Shanghai and neighboring Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces by 9am at Shanghai South Long-Distance Station, the report said.
At Hongqiao Airport, one of the city's two airports, 32 flights had been delayed by 10am as visibility was down to 700 meters.
Trains were not affected, however.
Fog is forecast again tonight with drizzle tomorrow, and temperatures predicted to top 18 degrees Celsius, weathermen said.
But temperatures will slide to 2 degrees on Friday.
