Pair get prison for buying ill, dead pigs to make pork
TWO illegal pork vendors who bought ill and dead pigs in Zhejiang Province and carried the pork to Shanghai for sale were sentenced to eight months in prison, the Yangpu District People's Court said yesterday.
Lu Gui and Lu Feng were each fined 8,000 yuan (US$1,257) for producing foods that failed to meet safety standards, the court said.
Prosecutors said the pair bought the pigs from slaughterhouses in Jiashan County at 4 yuan (63 US cents) to 6 yuan per kilogram and processed them to make them look like fresh and healthy pork starting in August.
