Passenger tries to jump from aircraft flight


A PASSENGER tried to open the cabin door to commit suicide during a flight from Shanghai to Beijing last Saturday, China Eastern Airlines confirmed yesterday.

Crew stopped the man and kept him under control during the rest of the flight, Southern Metropolis Daily reported today.

The man, from Inner Mongolia, tried to commit suicide over a doomed romance, the report said.

Witnesses said he thumped the cabin door and tried to open it 10 minutes after takeoff about 2:15pm. He tried several times to reach the door while crew restrained him.

A witness surnamed Zhang said the man stayed silent throughout. Several passengers took photos, Zhang said. A stewardess told him the man was in lovesick.

After the plane landed in Beijing at 4:20pm, the man was taken for questioning by police ll passengers in the aircraft will have life risk if the cabin door was opened in the height, the report said.
