Pay bus fare by phone
VISITORS to the World Expo can use mobile phone payment services for trips on 12 special Expo bus routes starting from yesterday, China Mobile's local branch said.
The new mobile wallet service adds to that adopted in all 280 Metro stations of 11 Metro lines, including those to the Expo site.
To use the service, Shanghai Mobile users have to get a replacement SIM (subscriber identity module) card from the carrier's outlets. People can then just swipe the phone to pay fares in more than 500 buses on the 12 Expo routes. The fee is the same as normal.
"With the service, people need not prepare coins to take a bus or Metro line to the Expo site, thus making the trip easy and convenient," Shanghai Mobile said in an email statement.
No coins may reduce waiting time for Expo visitors to get into the site.
