Pigs die in blaze on truck

A NUMBER of pigs died when the truck they were traveling in went up in flames in Jiading District yesterday afternoon. No people were killed or injured, police said.
The accident happened on Shengxing Road S. about 4pm, when the truck stopped at the roadside.
The fire broke out suddenly and quickly engulfed the front of the vehicle.
Witnesses said the pigs squealed desperately in panic but were stuck in their cages and could not escape.
Firefighters attended the scene quickly and soon had the blaze under control. They said some of the pigs had been suffocated by smoke.
Initial investigations showed that the fire was caused by aging wires on the truck, officials said.
