Pirated ACCA, CFA textbook ring busted

SHANGHAI police detained 35 suspects for pirating thousands of copies of international accountant and financial association textbooks, police announced this morning.

More than 20,000 books of the British-based Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Chartered Financial Analyst, a credential awarded by US-based CFA Institute to investment and financial professionals, were confiscated in the campaign.

The total value of the case had reached 200 million yuan (US$31.5 million), according to the Yangpu District police.

In March, Chinese branch of a British accountant training organization BBP called the police that pirated copies of ACCA textbooks were sold on Taobao.com, China's largest e-commerce platform.

On July 26, police in Shanghai, Beijing and Anhui Province launched an associated raid and cracked down the whole network.

Shanghai police caught 35 of the suspects in 17 hideouts in the city's Yangpu, Pudong and Baoshan districts with more than 100 printing machines.
