Plan to salvage ancient vessels
SHANGHAI is searching waters off its coastline for ancient ships that can be salvaged.
Thus far no signs of such ships have been discovered.
The Shanghai-based China Maritime Museum displays ancient vessels found in other waters off the country's coast and some donated by foreign companies.
Nian Jiye, deputy curator of the museum and a former transport official, said the ships may be buried deep under the sand.
He said the Wusong port area is the most likely place for sunken ships.
Nian added they are talking with overseas maritime museums to temporarily bring foreign collections to Shanghai.
