Plate blackmail
FOUR suspects have been detained for stealing license plates from vehicles and blackmailing the owners, Minhang District police said yesterday.
Before the Spring Festival, dozens of drivers reported that their plates were stolen in Jiangchuan and Wujing areas of the district, police said. The suspects would leave a note on the car asking the drivers to transfer money to their accounts. So far the four have confessed more than 80 cases involving 14,000 yuan (US$2,131) police said.
