A POLICE assistant died pursuing cable thieves in Chongming County on Thursday night, local police said yesterday.
Dong Jianshen, 28, received a fatal electric shock, police said. Officers were tipped off about 7pm on Thursday that thieves were cutting cables in a telecommunications station. Dong and police officers rushed to the station in Chongming's Taoyuan village. One suspect was detained, but Dong received a fatal shock as they sought another man.
