Police capture fugitive
A WANTED drug dealer was caught on Tuesday on a train from Shanghai to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province local railway police said yesterday.
The fugitive Li Dewei, 40, told officers that he and a relative had processed more than 1 ton of crystal methamphetamine, or "ice", in Myanmar, which shares a border with China, since 2007, according to police.
Police spokesman Yao Yunhai said the amount was "astonishing."
Yunnan Province native Li was tipped off in October that police were looking for him. He then started dressing like a tourist and went on the run.
On Tuesday about 9pm, police officers Jiang Jianjun and Cheng Weiguo noticed Li during a routine patrol on the train.
During questioning, Li eventually confessed when police realized Li's brother-in-law, surnamed Tian, was also wanted for drug dealing, the spokesman said.
Tian is still at large.
