Police cite illegal bus stop in deaths of tot, 2 adults

SHANGHAI police said they will strengthen enforcement against illegal expressway stops by long-distance buses after three people, including a one-year-old boy, were hit and killed by a bus at one such stop on Sunday.

Police said the victims, a 38-year-old man surnamed Wang, a 43-year-old woman surnamed Zhang and her grandson surnamed Hu were hit by a bus at 5:50pm after climbing over the railing of the G2 Expressway.

The three were waiting for their long-distance coach along the expressway, according to a preliminary investigation by police. They were pronounced dead at the scene after they were hit by a bus.

Police said they found a spot where buses stopped illegally, causing residents to risk their lives to catch buses there.

Police said that this year, they have punished 136 illegal pull-overs on the G2 Expressway, but there still are buses and passengers violating the traffic laws.
