Police crackdown restores order in hospital

MORE than 100 people were punished for disturbing order and security of Shanghai hospitals, police said today.

Police launched a crackdown last November to clear swindlers, scalpers and other offenders from local hospitals. Police officers have conducted more than 2,200 sweeps so far in cooperation with the city's health, urban planning, food and drug, and commercial departments.

Police caught 11 scalpers at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center and Zhongshan Hospital in Xuhui District and 16 scalpers at the Huashan Hospital in Jing'an District.

Police also slapped fines on more than 900 cars for illegal parking around hospitals during the rush hour as well as 80 three-wheelers for illegal service.
