Police detain suspect in robberies

A DRUG addict has been detained by Zhabei District police for robbing several convenience stores, officials said yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Ji robbed a Lianhua convenience store on Changzhong Road in Zhabei on February 1, police said. Ji was armed with a knife and took 700 yuan (US$107). He fled the scene on an electric scooter.
Several days later, Ji robbed a Quik convenience store on Sanquan Road, taking 1,500 yuan and eight cartons of cigarettes, police said.
Police used footage from surveillance cameras to track the robber. Officers found Ji's electric scooter, which matched the one in the surveillance footage. Ji was caught in his apartment.
Police said Ji told them he was a drug addict and needed money for drugs.
