Police found stolen baby, detain 4 suspects
A 10-month-old baby who was stolen from his home yesterday afternoon has been found by police early this morning and returned to his parents safe and sound.
Shanghai police said they detained four suspects, including a 23-year-old woman, in the abduction case.
The baby was found missing about 4pm yesterday after the young woman surnamed Yang visited the boy's grandmother in their home in suburban Songjiang District.
The family alerted police immediately and detectives located the baby at the home of Yang's relatives around 3:30am today in Minhang District. The two relatives and Yang's boyfriend were also detained for questioning.
The baby's grandmother said she was doing some washing in the kitchen and left the baby to Yang. When she returned to the room, she found both her grandson and Yang were gone. She rushed out and bumped into Yang in the stairway, empty-handed.
Yang allegedly told her that a woman took the baby away. The grandmother then called the police but Yang disappeared before police arrived and her mobile phone remained powered off.
Yang used to be the grandmother's colleague and she was currently hired by her son-in-law, who is the infant's father, to work in his company.
Yang told the grandmother that she just quit her job and was visiting them to say goodbye.
Police are investigating her motive behind the abduction case.
