Police probe deaths on campus
POLICE are investigating the sudden deaths of two university students found in their dormitories over the past week at Shanghai University's Yanchang Road campus.
The cause of the two deaths was still unknown, but police have ruled out homicide, university officials said today.
On Sunday, a male student was found dead in bed in his dorm, four days after another male student died on campus.
One of the dead was confirmed as a postgraduate in material science, university officials said.
"It seemed mysterious only because the two deaths happened in the same week," said Liu Shaoxue, a school official. "It was just a coincidence."
He added that the two cases were not related. Classmates were dealing with the aftermath by paying tribute on Internet forums.
About seven college students in Shanghai died unexpectedly last year, nearly one-third of the total student deaths, according to a report in March.
