Police raid illegal gas sites
FENGXIAN District police raided five illegal liquefied natural gas manufacturing facilities, officials said yesterday.
They caught 12 suspects and confiscated 673 LNG bottles in total.
Police first cracked down on an illegal LNG production site in Huayan Village near Nanqiao Area last Wednesday and caught four suspects.
Based on information from the four suspects, police then raided four more illegal manufacturing sites in the district over the weekend.
The manufacturers purchased low-quality bottles which had been used several times and had a high likelihood of exploding.
They stored the gas in rural villages, where LNG bottles are used frequently, and sold the bottles to residents and restaurants at low prices.
"I sold about 20 to 30 bottles a day and earned 10-plus yuan (US$1.50) for each bottle on average," said a suspect surnamed Cai.
