Police return with the gold

PUDONG New Area police yesterday returned a gold nugget worth about 120,000 yuan (US$17,543) to its owner, a Hong Kong-based photoelectric company. The 514-gram nugget was part of an industrial evaporation machine but went missing on October 15 last year.

Police arrested a 30-year-old local man surnamed Cheng in Kunming, Yunnan Province, on November 14. Cheng, a technician with the company, had pawned the nugget for 67,000 yuan and spent the money on his friends and gambling.
