Police step up checks on buses for valid ‘Chunyun’ permits
SHANGHAI traffic police said on Thursday they’re stepping up checks to ensure that all long-distance passenger buses with Shanghai plates have valid certificates for “Chunyun,” the peak travel period for the Spring Festival holiday.
The travel season, which started on January 24, will last until March 3 this year.
The certificates are issued to buses with more than nine seats after police verify the safety of the buses and record of the registered drivers.
On Thursday morning, two buses with passenger bound for Jiangsu Province were stopped at the Zhuqiao Toll Station on G15 Shenhai Expressway in Jiading District.
Both the drivers did not have the certificate and their licenses were briefly confiscated.
One of the drivers said he would take a different route to avoid traffic cops as alternate bus arrangements can be difficult this time of the season.
Police claim the scrutiny is important to ensure safety on the roads.
