Popular Restaurant Hots Up Unexpectedly
THERE was a fire at the popular Xiaolulu Restaurant on Yan'an Road in Jing'an District yesterday morning but firefighters had the blaze under control within 15 minutes.
Grease on the kitchen's extraction pipes is believed to be the cause of the fire. No one was injured.
Restaurant workers said they were preparing for the lunch-hour crowd when the fire started.
A chef was frying with oil at a high temperature when flames ignited the grease that had accumulated on the extraction pipes which lead to the roof.
Employees said they called police and used extinguishers to help put out the fire.
An employee said the restaurant will be closed for a short time to carry out repairs but will be open for Spring Festival meals. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
