Popular restaurant serves crayfish with bacteria, causes food poisoning
Bacteria were found in food samples served by a crayfish restaurant that had been ordered to shut down earlier this month pending an investigation into a food poisoning outbreak, Yangpu District government said today.
Food safety inspectors found the bacteria vibrio parahemolyticus in food samples provided by Zheng Wen Qi Crayfish Donburi restaurant, the government said. The same bacteria were also found in people who had eaten at the restaurant.
“The food poisoning was caused by vibrio parahemolyticus and the restaurant is guilty of improperly handling food,” the government notice said.
The government said the restaurant owner would be punished but didn’t give any further details. It was not clear whether the restaurant would be allowed to reopen.
The restaurant in Wujiaochang area is one of Zheng Wen Qi’s 11 branches around the city. The brand is owned and operated by Jiangsu Province-based Xuzhou Yihong Catering Management Co.
A number of diners suffered diarrhea, stomachaches and vomiting after eating crayfish meat served on a bed of rice at the outlet.
