Porsche driver detained in drunk driving accident
THE Porsche driver whose car crashed into a taxi and injured three on Saturday night has been detained for drunk driving, police said this morning.
The driver surnamed Cui failed the blood-alcohol test with a blood alcohol reading of 0.142mg/ml, over the legal limit, police said.
The 20-year-old from Shandong Province is now out on bail.
Wei Genlin, the taxi driver and one of the three wounded, was still in coma this morning, the Changzheng Hospital said. He suffered severe head injuries and is listed in critical condition.
The 59-year-old driver is about to retire this year, said his wife Chen Qiaoping at the bedside in an intensive care unit.
Wei's two customers, a Finn and a Taiwanese, suffered bruises and have left the hospital.
The hit happened around 10:40pm Saturday on the off-ramp of the Yan'an Elevated Road near Jiangxi Road, police said.
Cui's Porsche sports car was changing lanes on a highway freely at high speed when it rammed into Wei's taxi, badly damaging its rear.
Wei lost consciousness after the hit and was stuck in his seat until rescue crew came. Cui was led away by police with a strong odor of alcohol, witnesses said.
