Power cut strands Metro commuters
A POWER cut on Metro Line 2 this morning stranded thousands of commuters.
The power cut between the line's Lujiazui and Shiji Avenue stations happened at around 8.30am and affected both directions, Xinmin.cn reported.
The service returned to normal about one hour later.
Crowds of commuters were stranded in stations along the line. Many tried using buses which quickly became overcrowded.
One commuter, surnamed Li, said she heard the train radio announcing that the Metro service would be suspended as her train was passing Zhongshan Park Station. No reasons for the suspension were given and commuters were advised to transfer to other public transport.
A Xinmin reporter at the Longyang Road Station around 8.40am told the Website nearly 200 commuters were stranded at the platform. Metro staff handed out letters of apology and arranged refunds for them.
Mobile phone services were also cut in the station.
