THEFTS from public power facilities were reported to be down by 69 percent in January compared to the same period last year, thanks to the intensified crackdown on such crimes, the city police said yesterday.
Police said storage batteries in mobile-phone base stations in Jiading District were frequently stolen since the end of last year. Six suspects including three surnamed Yan, Liu and Kuang said they stole more than 20 storage batteries worth of 1.2 million yuan (US$175,492).
