Prosecutors approve arrests of Shanghai Husi Food Co executives

Shanghai prosecutors have today approved the arrests of six Shanghai Husi Food Co executives over a food safety scandal that has rocked famous fast-food chains.

The second branch of the Shanghai People’s Procuratorate approved the arrests, which included the company’s executive Hu Jun.

The firm had supplied meat to clients like McDonald’s and Yum Brands Inc, parent of KFC, along with many others.

Both McDonald’s and Yum Brands severed contracts with Shanghai Husi, owned by US-based OSI Group, after the scandal broke.

A Shanghai television station program reported on July 20 that Shanghai Husi had been mixing expired and fresh meat while also keeping fake production logs to fool food safety inspectors.
