Psychological counseling helps families hit by tragedy

A program providing psychological counseling to parents who lost their only child has helped more than 180 families this year, Shanghai Women’s Federation officials said today.

Counseling has been available in Changning, Zhabei and Hongkou districts this year, but will be expanded to other areas of the city in 2015.

It aims to help parents, mostly seniors, recover from the trauma of losing their children and set plans for their future lives by organizing various social activities. More than 5,200 individuals benefited from the service, officials said.
