Pudong boost village tourism for urbanites

PUDONG New Area has set up 10 model rural village touring sites to attract urban tourists to the countryside.
The area plans to send the first batch of 100-plus residents to visit five of touring sites including the Shuyuan Village and the coastal peach garden during the Pudong Agricultural Fair, which runs from July 28 to 30.
Apart from tasting the fresh peaches, local "8424 Watermelon, tourists can enjoy the rural landscape and gain agricultural knowledge from the farmers.
The village touring program will be fixed after the fair and resident can apply for the program via their neighborhood community, officials said.
About 100 exhibitors will display more than 500 agricultural products at the fair in Yuanshen Stadium at 1458 Zhangyang Road is free.
Authorities will display the food tracing system at the fair and the system will cover all agricultural products in Pudong in the future, officials said.
