Pudong government opens microblog portal on Weibo
WITH the widespread popularity of microblogging, Pudong New Area today opened a microblogging portal on Weibo.com for its government departments, leading officials and celebrities to interact with the public.
The portal at http://city.weibo.com/g/pudong invites everyone to join in.
The number of Chinese microbloggers has reached 320 million by the end of November, about 65 percent of all Chinese netizens, according to a survey by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The survey also found government accounts on the Twitter-like weibo.com have multiplied 33 times in 12 months to 18,132 by the end of October.
The survey group studied the 200 most influential official microblogs and found 20 percent of them belong to government agencies in Guangdong Province; 13 percent belong to Beijing; and only 3 percent belong to Shanghai.
