Pudong market blaze kills 5, injuries 12
A raging fire in a farm produce market in the city's Pudong District last night killed five people and injured 12 others, including one in critical condition, the city government said this morning.
The official report said the fire broke out at 8:32pm yesterday inside a dried farm goods wholesale market at 2000 Hunan Road in Pudong. The blaze ruined about 2,000 square meters of the market before it was put out at 9:18pm.
Firefighters found five dead bodies at the scene and a 57-year-old woman who had burns over 80 percent of her body. Three others suffered serious but not life-threatening burns, the report said.
Officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
