Pudong road caves in, no injuries reported
Soil erosion caused a road to cave in early this morning in Pudong, Shanghai, leaving a two-meter-deep hole in the road, xinmin.cn reported.
The hole at the intersection of Jinke Road and Haike Road is about five meters long and three meters wide. No car or pedestrian fell into the pit a road repair team had already encircled the spot with warning signs last week.
The workers said the road showed signs of subsidence last Thursday and but didn't collapse until early this morning. The soil under the pavement has been hallowed out by leaking water.
They said they will start repairing the road this afternoon.
