Pujiang forum set to promote innovation
Pushing forward technological innovation to ensure that it can better serve the Chinese economy is the focus of the 2013 Pujiang Innovation Forum in Shanghai.
The two-day event, themed "Innovation-Driven Development and the Role of Enterprises," is expected to attract more than 4,000 participants. The event will have several sessions featuring 300 senior-level officials from governments, research institutes and the corporate world both at home and abroad when it starts today.
"The rapid development of science and technology has become a stimulus for deep reforms on productivity," said Xu Meihua, an official with the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.
"China will accelerate the building of the national innovation system and focus on setting up a market-oriented technology innovation system with enterprises playing a critical role."
A Country of Honor and a Province of Honor will continue to feature at the 2013 forum. Finland is the Country of Honor 2013 and Sichuan Province is selected as the Province of Honor 2013.
As the Country of Honor, Finland will anchor a forum on the theme "Innovation Economy: Competitive Strength Fuelled by Innovation." Its Minister of Economic Affairs, Jan Vapaavuori, will lead a delegation to the forum.
