Punished in the heat
PICTURES of an eight-year-old girl kneeling on the ground to do her homework on the hottest day of the year so far sparked an outcry yesterday.
The girl told reporters that her father had forced her to kneel on the road as she couldn't finish her homework. She was there for more than an hour before she was allowed to go back indoors, according to one witness.
Many people who saw the photographs said the parents should be punished for child abuse. The temperature of the road was believed to be about 50 degrees Celsius.
The parents, who moved to the Pudong New Area several months ago, are migrants from east China's Anhui Province.
