Punishments after fatal factory collapse
SEVEN township government officials in Fengxian District have been punished for their
involvement in a factory collapse that killed three workers and injured seven late last
year.
Eleven factory staff are in custody, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.
The report said an investigation launched by the Fengxian district government blamed
the fatal accident on poor work safety management by the factory and poor work safety
supervision by the local Jinhui township government.
Fourth story scaffolding at the Shanghai Dehua Metal Netbelt Co Ltd collapsed on
December 21. The factory was illegally expanding its workshop in Fengxian's Jinhui
Town.
One worker died on the spot, two died later in hospital and another seven were injured.
The collapse occurred as the workers were pouring concrete. The three dead workers were
buried under concrete for at least four hours.
