Puppetry festival loosens strings in city

THIRTY-THREE troupes from across the world will showcase their puppetry arts with 24 performances in the next five days as the first Shanghai International Puppetry Festival began today in Shanghai.
The opening ceremony was held this morning at Century Plaza on Nanjing Road E.
Twelve overseas troupes are performing, including groups from Spain, Germany, Australia, Holland, South Korea, Japan, Belgium, Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
The domestic troupes are from Shanghai and the provinces of Guangdong, Henan, Liaoning, Fujian as well as Hong Kong Special Administration Region.
A judging panel of nine artists will elect the best shows for awards, according to the organizer.
