Rail station's north square opens after facelift

THE northern square of Shanghai Railway Station and the new terminal will reopen tomorrow after a two-year revamp.

Railway travelers can take Metro Lines 3 and 4 as well as buses to reach the square and enter the station, today's Oriental Morning Post reported.

But travelers cannot leave the station through the north square yet because an underground passage connecting its north and south squares is still under construction.

The revamp, starting in June 2008, has tripled the space of the northern square from 5,000 square meters to 15,560 square meters.

The terminal is a two-story building with a ticket office, VIP lounge and two 1,600-square-meter lounges.
