Railway stations bolster security
Six railway stations in Shanghai and Suzhou are beefing up security in the wake of a serious bus fire in Hangzhou, according to a report released by the Shanghai Railway Police yesterday.
Shanghai Railway Station, Hongqiao Railway Station and Suzhou Railway Station are among the six that will ask all passengers to sip any liquids they are carrying to prove they are harmless, the report said.
The additional security was introduced after a passenger poured a flammable liquid on a Hangzhou bus on July 5 and set it on fire. More than 30 people were injured.
Passengers will need to pass security checkpoints like before although inspectors will now ask people to open their luggage for checks. If inspectors find an unidentifiable fluid, they will hand the case over to police.
