Rainy, sleety tomorrow as coldest chill in 35 years forecast to hit on weekend
THE rainy and sleety weather is expected to continue into tomorrow with freezing temperatures, followed by a mostly dry but chillier weekend, forecasters said.
According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, the cold wave sweeping the city brought rains to most of downtown districts and short-lived snowfalls in suburban areas in city's western and northern parts last night. The districts saw sleet overnight included Qingpu, Songjiang, Jiading, Baoshan, Jinshan, along with Chongming County.
Today it drizzles and most of the city recorded temperatures between 1 and 2 degrees Celsius in the morning. The drizzly condition is expected last for whole day today with part areas receive sleet.
Tomorrow's weather will be similar. Another obvious snowfall is likely to occur tomorrow night and the precipitation will die out Saturday morning.
Though the skies will clear up on Saturday, it will be much colder with the mercury falling below zero and the winds will grow stronger, bringing a wind chill.
Shanghai is forecast to experience the coldest temperature in 35 years this weekend, as the mercury falls as low as minus 10 in the outskirts on Sunday morning. No relief is expected on the low Monday morning but the high on Monday will bounce back to 6 degrees.
