Rats bite coma woman in hospital
A 75-YEAR-OLD woman in a deep coma in hospital suffered bites from rats in the ward, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.
Shanghai Huangpu District Tumor Hospital has moved the woman surnamed Xia to a newly refurbished ward, the newspaper said.
Xia's sister said she had seen rats in the cupboard and one jumped onto her bed-ridden sister. She was shocked to find her legs had several bite marks, the newspaper said.
The rats also bit medical equipment such as syringes, she added.
Hospital officials blamed the rampant rats on lack of maintenance. The ward is in an old building, Xia's sister told the newspaper, and the hospital had promised to exterminate the rats and revamp the building.
