Real Madrid comes to Expo

MADRID will hold an exhibition about its world famous football club in its Expo pavilion in August, the head of the Spanish capital's Expo participation said today.

Real Madrid has won the most European Cups and a replica of one of the cups will be shown at the exhibition, which will mainly cover the club's history, said Ignacio Nino, General Coordinator of the Madrid Pavilion at the Expo.

The pavilion will also have a shop selling T-shirts and other Real Madrid merchandise.

Some of the club's top players may appear in the pavilion during the exhibition, he said.

The city yesterday launched a free exhibition at the Expo Shanghai Exhibition Center at 300 Huaihai Road M. which runs until Sunday.

"We want to whet the appetites of future visitors to the Madrid Pavilion before the Expo gets underway in May," Nino said.

The exhibition includes life-size photos of the Real Madrid players so visitors can appear to have their photos taken with the stars.

Visitors can upload their photos on its official Website, www.madrid2010.org, so they can be shown on the Air Tree.

The exhibition also showcases models of its Expo constructions - the Bamboo House and the Air Tree.

Madrid's constructions are replicas of existing constructions: the Bamboo House, a copy of a state-subsidized housing; and the Air Tree, a copy of its bioclimate trees on its public Eco-Boulevard.

The Bamboo House will be finished by the end of March, while the Air Tree will be finished in mid-April. The exhibition's theme is "Madrid is your home."

The house and tree will remain in Shanghai after the Expo closing in October as part of Madrid's legacy.
