Reasonable food prices at Expo

FOOD prices at the 2010 World Expo site will be the same as other places in the city, a senior Expo organizer said yesterday as recruitment began for the site's third batch of caterers.

An average meal will cost 35 yuan (US$5.12) per person at Expo restaurants, said Lin Shengyong, director of the Commercial Administration and Service Department of the Expo site.

Most of the restaurants will provide set meals with several dishes and a drink, Lin said.

Chinese food will be the most common although authentic foreign dishes will be available in many national pavilions, he said.

Expo participants can use up to 20 percent of their pavilion for business, according to International Exposition Bureau stipulations. Most participating countries have decided to include a restaurant in their pavilion.

The average price for a meal in foreign national pavilion restaurants will be about 150 yuan per person.

About 110 restaurants will be spread out across the Expo site, not including those inside foreign pavilions.

Sixty-eight restaurants have been recruited thus far, including Starbucks, KFC and Nanxiang steamed buns.
