Record turnovers reported at Pudong airport during post-holiday peak

SHANGHAI Pudong International Airport saw a record high number of entry & exit passengers between February 13 and February 15 with about 367,000 people entering or leaving the country in those three days of the Spring Festival holiday, airport entry-exit frontier inspection station said.

Nearly 120,000 people were from China’s mainland. The daily average was about 1.5 times higher than the same period last year.

The most popular destination was Japan, which saw 20 percent of mainland travelers, followed by Thailand, South Korea and the US.

More than 73,000 of the 202,000 entry passengers were foreigners, 80 percent of them expats working in the city.

More than 20,000 passengers -- Chinese natives including those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and foreigners holding permanent residence permits -- used the airport's self-service immigration channels to enter or exit the country by scanning their electronic entry permit cards in the three days.
