Red alert sounded as temperature tops 40

THE Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a red alert for heat wave at 2:10pm today, meaning the mercury is set to top 40 degrees Celsius in downtown area.
The city has a 4-tiered color system for heat wave alert – blue, yellow, orange and red, with red being the highest level alert.
