Renovation of Line 9's Caohejing station hopes to ease commuter traffic
CAOHEJING Hi-tech Park station on Metro Line 9 has been renovated to ease the flow of passenger traffic but confusion prevailed on the first day of its reopening.
After shutting down for three weeks for renovation, the station reopened for commuters again on Monday, and the passenger traffic flow was faster than before.
"There used to be congestion at the entrance to the station and on platform,” a commuter, surnamed Wang, told Shanghai Daily. "But there is no congestion now. The renovation seems to have worked.”
The chief of Caohejing Hi-tech Park station, Dai Jing, said the passenger capacity at the station has been doubled after the renovation, with passengers leaving the station in 2 minutes from the previous four minutes.
But Shanghai Daily found there was still confusion particularly in the west hall (Exit 3, 4 and 5), where the major renovation works was carried out.
Despite notices and announcements informing commuters about the new arrangement, they still headed to the old exit point, leading to chaos.
The Metro station has roped in 18 volunteers to guide passengers, especially during the morning rush hours. They will be around for a week before regular commuters understand the new upgrades.
