Reservoir link
CONSTRUCTION of a large pipe under the Yangtze River to connect the city's giant Qingcaosha and smaller Chenhang reservoirs is expected to start this year in case the lesser of the two is threatened by a salt tide or other emergencies, officials said. The pipe, which will be 15 kilometers long, will have the capacity to move 3.5 million cubic meters of water from Qingcaosha Reservoir to Chenhang every day if a drop in water quality requires it, according to the Shanghai Water Authority.
