Residents await free Expo gift packs

FROM May 15, each family in Shanghai will get a free ticket to World Expo and a 200-yuan (US$29.30) public transport card from Shanghai Municipal Government.

Families with city permanent residency or those living in Shanghai for more than six months will be entitled to the treat, according to the detailed ticket distribution program revealed today by the city government.

Also attached are a thank-you letter, an Expo site map and a souvenir badge in the shape of Expo mascot Haibao.

The gifts have been eagerly anticipated after the plan was announced by Shanghai's Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng.

Neighborhood committees will distribute the gift packs.

Tickets distributed to families in Pudong New Area, Huangpu, Luwan and Jinshan districts as well as Chongming County will be valid for Expo visits in June, while those in Jing'an, Yangpu, Minhang, Qingpu and Fengxian districts can visit the event in July.

Tickets in Xuhui, Changning, Hongkou and Baoshan districts will be valid in August and those in Zhabei, Putuo, Jiading and Songjiang will be vakud in September.

The city has launched a hotline on 962200 for queries on the free tickets and cards.
