Residents 'happy to be back'
ALL of the residents living in the two buildings next to the 28-floor high-rise that was engulfed in the November 15 blaze last year have moved back to their homes, authorities said yesterday.
The 416 households in the buildings in Jing'an District were evacuated after the inferno and have been living in temporary accommodation for more than a month.
Fang Jiachang, 89, said she "is happy to be back" and "everything now seems better."
One thing that bothers Fang is the lack of sunlight as her windows are still shaded by the netting which covers the scaffolding running all around the building.
Scaffolding still surrounds the buildings as officials said some renovation work still needs to be done on them.
City construction authorities earlier attested that the buildings are now safe, as the insulation materials - which are blamed for the quick spread of the fire, and was being used to clad the outside of the building - have been removed.
